I don't understand your message; are you saying you have a younger dog that you would like to buy insurance for? As you say, 10 years old is too old for new pet insurance.

I should have a word at the vet's and see what they recommend but I would get at least 3 quotes for Bon. My daughter has a lovely black lab who is insured but the excess is high; about £80. That is something you should consider before you sign. I think the only time our Jigger got his treatment paid for was when he had a scan. He is epileptic. He is so gorgeous, though. A typical lab; a gentle clown!

Hi dog lovers. I have recently insured my new tearaway! I shopped around online. Most policies seem to have an excess of around £65 - £80. The monthly premiums varied betweed £11 and £26 !!!
If you don't need extras (like travel cover) - most companies do three grades of insurance. The best deal I got was with the company who already have my car policy, so got a discount. - Worth looking into if car is with big company and not specialist car one. Also worth checking whether the bills are paid directly to the Vet, or if you have to pay first, then get refunded. Good luck. - Better go and let pup out !

Also check the increase in payment as dog gets older. We use pet plan, but it wasnt so good as cat got older and needed longterm treatment, the excess got very large.

Might be an Idea to get a estimate, and then put the money away( if you can), that way you still have the money and likely you will have enough to pay a vets bill...I mean, as suggested £26 is a likely monthly premium, that could be more than100 pounds saved a month.......£1200 a year....

Val - As Bob says, this may work for you. Martyn Lewis on TV suggested this as a possibility. (I do know. people who do it) . You would be fine if your dog didn't need any major procedures for 2 or 3 years - Many common one-off treatments fall under the excess anyway.
However, Only have a pet fund if you have a coupla grand in savings to back it up with. A road accident or serious operation can cost big bucks! Also a major illness would make any future insurance prohibitive.
Basic cover will probably be around £14 a month. Good Luck again.
