I understand the christian name Polly is a short form/nick name. But what name is it derived from? |

Well Molly was a derivative of Mary and Polly was a derivative of Molly so guess sometimes a Mary could be called Polly |

I always found it interesting that a few Marys in my tree seemed to be known as Polly even when they had middle names, so originally I though it was a short form of Mary Ann, but then I realised another Polly in my tree was really Mary Elizabeth! |

Shirley & Kate, Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I think in my Polly is a Mary, because Polly has a sister Lizzy - so I assume you can't have two sisters named Elizabeth. Also Polly named her dayghter Mary. |
