Hi Carol I think they were compressed paper/cardboard. Remember having one for school, which was a Samsonite label. Horrid things. |

I have two of these little suitcases. They belonged to my grandmother and I think she used them when she was in service. The used to be full of photos but now they sit on top of my wardrobe. |

They are made of compressed cardboard, sealed on the outside with a very durable brown finish, and lined with a coloured paper. We keep our shoe cleaning equiment in one which my father used in the 50's to carry his ticket machine and spare tickets, and money float, when he was a bus conductor. |
