Wonder if anyone shed any light on what I came across and never noticed before and that is on my grandmothers death cert its got her place of birth as Sandbach, Cheshire but on her birth cert its got Chesterton, Staffordshire.
I know they are the same lady but I just dont understand.

Thanks

The information on the death cert is provided by an informant, maybe the informant didn't know her well enough to know where she was born.

Information on a Death Certificate is only as good as the person registering the death knows. Often ages, places of birth or full names may appear wrong, but are just what the informant knows.

My Grandmother was registered as widow of Jack, because that was what the person knew him as. He was really John.

Yes your all probably right, I spoke to a cousin and she suggested that perhaps granddad had just been confused and upset(as you would be at the death of your lifes partner)
Thanks for all your replies

Maybe she lived at Sandbach and spoke of it often and he remembered that rather than her place of birth.

I have that on a Census , in one 1901 she , my greatgrandmother ,was born in Co. Cavan , in next 1911 born in Co.Wicklow. Leads to loads of problems trying to find birth

On my mums birth certificate her maiden name ends in "on" and on her marriage certificate it ends in "ing". the story goes that her father changed it because he was southern Irish and the "on" was the english way of spelling it but I have just found out that whoever told him that was wrong it was "on" all along.

My OH's father became fed up when he found that the surname for some of his seven children was spelled Bur... and some Bir.... so he had it "fixed" for them all to read Bur.... (his own included). He believed this to be the correct way to spell it.

My research has revealed that he was wrong! However, my OH may have Bir... on his birth certificate, but it's Bur on his marriage and death certificates, and on our children's birth certificates - and I'm not changing anything!!
