I had a potted orchid

I have about 15 orchids and I water them once a week by standing them in the sink full of water, feed them and then stand on draining board until water stops running out of the pots. Most do not like full sun, but do like light, so a little distance from window is best.

An orchid fancier told me to put them in filtered sunlight in cement or ceramic pots; feed with orchid fertilizer as per instructions on the packet and water well, but don't drown it. Then, let it multiply until it crams the pot before dividing.
I have followed this advice and mine are doing OK.

given me yesterday for my birthday - any ideas how I look after it - hubby reckons it will be dead within the week. I must prove him wrong.
