There has been a collared dove around here for a while with a huge lump on it's head.It seemed to be living normally and I assumed it was a deformity it was hatched with.

I have not seen the bird for a while but,in it's place, there is a collared dove with a bit of a stiff top-knot,still living normally.
That must have been a huge abcess, poor little devil!

Hi Sharron I too have a collared dove with lump but this is on the side of its neck, at first I thought it had been injured and I kept an eye on it(well as close an eye as I could), I do still see it and I have come to the conclusion that its some sort of heamatoma and it does'nt seem to bother the bird it eats, drinks, flys and poohs normally so I dont worry to much.

Pigeons and doves when really ill will often walk around on the ground until a cat or dog kills it ,they seem to know they arn't going to get better ,Fred.
