This afternoon I was channel hopping and came across QVC - the programme was selling leather handbags - the prices, I thought, were extortionate - some over 200 pounds. Would you pay that much for a handbag ?

I don't think I would, no. I've made a few embroidered bags and I thought I was being optimistic when I put £22.50 on the price tag (even though it was five or six hours work), alhough they weren't leather!

My favourite bag is my buttoned purple clutch one from M&S - it's only little so it's OK for evenings, but I spent £5 on that. Bargain!

No I wouldn't, I paid £13 for a bag in the Clarks outlet mall at Street and thought I was spending too much on a bag!!

Must admit I have loads of handbags . my friends laugh at me but I would not and do not spend anything like that - 9 euros off the market is more like my price. Some of my handbags are years old - I bought them with me from UK to Spain 8 years ago !!
Kate . your embroidered handbags sound lovely - wish I had the talent

I can't see why all these handbags are expensive, you are only paying the designer the money

When I was young I loved shoes and matching bags...... all cheap.
I do believe in Quantity, not Quality obviously.... ;-0)

I never had that much money to put in it!!

In 1979 I paid a lot,I think it was about £12 but it could even have been £20.Somebody laughed about the price and showed me her PVC bag she had paid £4 for and all it's benefits.

Eight years later she asked me if she could have the bag when I had finished with it.
It is still the only handbag I have although it very rarely sees the light of day anymore,it could still do the job if need be.

I tend to buy a leather handbag when we go on holiday to Italy.I have paid quite a lot ,maybe £70 or £80.But I use them for years and they tend to be a little unusual. So all in all I think it has been money well spent.

i have to admit that i have a hand bag that was just under £200 however it was a leaving present from my last job, i love it but would never have spent that much if i were buying one for myself.

£2-3 in charity shops, only own one large one for everyday, and a small black one for funerals.

Iv'e much better things to spend my money on, like fabric for patchwork, and extra food for my strays.

My daughter works for Mulberry and lots of their bags are more than £200. Even in these hard times they are still selling plenty. Wouldn't pay that much myself though.

Oh Dear

I really like the Radley bags and so far have five. I was able to get 2 when in Harrogate a couple of years ago and a shop was changing stock, so for that wedding anniversary i managed to get 2 for the price of one!

Admit i have paid, well OH has, £125 and £250 for the others and have the matching purses. However, I also have handmade crochet bag which is used a lot, a couple of fun bags for summer time, and yesterday when clearing wardrobes etc found 5 more in a defunct safe. Can't get rid of any because they each hold special memeories.
Plus have others packed in a case ranging from 1960s to present day. Grandaughter loves handbags and shoes, just like me so she will have them all.
