My ancestor was a farmer with land - 20 acres. How big is 20 acres... ie in relation to a football pitch.

X farmer hubby says 20 acres is a very small farm, more like a smallholding.

You can maybe put a bit of meat on the bones with a look at the tithe map.

Is he mentioned on the apportionment?

We have a little over an acre of land here, but I wouldnt want to put a football pitch on it. It is all up and down - a couple of ridges with the hollows in between. Quite apart from the fact that the trees would get in the way of the game.
