when i was young Chris Rea worked
for his dad in our local cafe/ice cream palour
ive just seen him on TV and hasnt he aged

mind i will always have fond memories of the laughs we had

we used to call him penguin
because he wore blank trousers and a white top
he was really nice
and at 15 we all used to flirt with him
but that's all it was he was a nice boy

judging by his interview he hasn't changed in attitude
fame has never gone to his head

I saw him on BBC breakfast the other morning, and I must say, I really do respect him.

He said how he had cancer of the pancreas, and has had the pancreas removed. Now my Grandad had that and was dead within three weeks of the first symptoms. Chris Rea had his removed and is now a member of a very unique club. He is one of only 34 people who have survived the operation to have their pancreas removed. He's on 35 pills and several injections a day just to survive.

So, although fame never really went to his head anyway, he has reason to have his feet firmly on the ground. And he's proud to be a boro...
