My friend recently had to get this done as her hubby going into a home..It cost her £400 but seemingly you can print the forms off and do it yourself for £25 - no one tells you that you don`t need a lawyer

yes they are legit in Scotland -they get sent to Guardianship place in Falkirk. My daughter is a Social Worker and her friend who works in Community told her about them

I recently had mine updated, but it incorporated a so-called *Living Will*, nominating who would make decisions on life support, what happened if I survived but was left with neurological damage, etc etc

it cost £300, plus quite a bit more (can't remember, was too ill by the time it got to court) to get it pushed through the courts.

When making a straightforward will/Power of Attorney/Living Will then the forms are ok.... but they don't always cover more complex requirements.

There are currently two type of power of attorney.

* The 'Lasting Power of Attorney - Property & Affairs' ('LPA-PA') - which allows you to appoint somebody to look after YOUR MONEY and related affairs. This effectively replaces the old Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA).

* The 'Lasting Power of Attorney - Personal Welfare' ('LPA-PW') - which allows you to appoint somebody to look after YOU and your personal welfare and healthcare. This effectively replaces what was commonly known as the 'Living Will'.

Copies of suitable documents can be downloaded from the Office of the Public Guardian. There is also a registration fee of £120 per p.o.a. payable to the the Office.. This does not need to be paid straight away, only when the document needs to be used, and of course many never do, thankfully.

Lol, Hawkwind, thank you..... mine was put into effect earlier this year, by me, just in case!! Yes... that was £120!

I looked at some of the downloadable ones, and they didn't cover, or allow for me to cover, all the little bits that I wanted in place.... and hubby has just reminded me that his were done as well, so the £300 was between us both... although his *living will* bit wasn't registered cos there was no need to with him.

So £420 altogether.

And I am still around... the shock nearly did for me, lolol

It must be different in Scotland .I `ve looked it up £75 NOT £25 AS IT USED TO BE BUT £400 for a straight forward one which has to go Sheriff Court - no-one knows why
