Hi Deanna,
Just wish I knew where the rest of her brothers and sisters where born, has mum is the youngest she has not got a clue. I have mums birth certificate and she was born in Kilea Donegal. I know where five of them where born. My grandfather was a blacksmith. Would love to know about my g grand parents.

Hi Linda, I think they did ask if we could read and write in the census... way back.

My husband is Irish and they have had the 1911 census for a few years.
We have a book about Carrick-on-Shannon, which his cousin sent him one Christmas and it has the census in it.
His grandparents were in it too, and his Grandfather was a cooper, still remembered there I believe.
Now if only I KNEW where mine came from, I may be able to find my Cornelius Kelly.... *arrrgggg.........*

Just found my grand parents in the 1911 Irish census, I know so little about my Irish side, and my mum does not know very much.
I cant believe the things that they were asked on the census. So sad they even asked if you could read and write, never happen over here. But its given me some anwers.
