Bad Luck Houses ?

Does anyone else think that there are some houses that seem to attract people who cannot settle down ?
I've lived in my home for almost 22 years . It's a council property , as is the one next door ( no 5 ) . Since I've lived here I've had seven different sets of people as neighbors ( the longest stay was nearly five years , the shortest about a year ) .
I had often pondered whether this had been going on before I moved in to no 3 and today ( by chance ) I got the answer.
I bumped into a woman who had lived at no.7 for 15 years ( her family moved two years after I had moved onto the road but she did remember me ). I asked her " did no 5 keep changing hands when you lived next door ? "........she answered Yes . about seven times I think .
Which means that in 35 years it has housed 14 different families !
I often wonder if it is a " bad luck " house .

the house opposite me, is a bad luck house

Hello Stray ( thanks for answering the thread......lol.......I was starting to think I look like a weirdo for thinking along the lines of back luck houses ).

Oddly enough , the place that I lived before I was here , was discribed to me by one of my ex -neighbours ( after I'd moved ) as a back luck house . I only lived there for 11 months and the proson who swapped with me only stayed for four months !

Glad I moved into here and not the one next door...........lol

We had a weeks holiday in a lovely 300 year old thatched cottage in Dorset last month.OH had a nightmare the first night and was very odd the next day.He felt something bad had happened in the house!!!!!.It felt fine to me.I told him to get to grips ,otherwise he was going to spoil the week.He did snap out of it ,but still thinks something happened there.

AB.....I'm sorry to hear you feel plagued by bad luck : (
It can be pretty miserable to get more than a persons " fare share " of " bad luck "..........not sure how a fare share is worked out though.........lol

I thought it was the people really, more than the house itself ( until I spoke to that woman today ) . As it often changes hands in an exchange , some folk have itchier feet than others so there must be a number of often swapped council houses dotted all over Gt.Britian .......lol

Amanda2003 Report 12 Oct 2009 19:43

Jane....that's interesting . The families that move in next door always start off saying what a great place it is to live and that they intend to stay ( possiably buy the place etc )..........then something usually goes t*ts up and they exchange..............it is most odd .

What are you doing to them Amanda? lol Only joking.

Maybe they move on to a bigger house.

Marion.............lol...........can you see why I was SO relieved to hear that it was happening before I got here.............lol

I have to confess that I'm praying the trend will continue long enough for the current occupants to move !! ......... of all the others I've had as neighbours ( and I'm still on friendly terms with two lots )....these ones are the pits : ((

MarionfromScotland

MarionfromScotland Report 12 Oct 2009 19:55

Tell them it's haunted and had they not heard of the number of people who lived there, and moved out so sooooooooooooon lol

Amanda2003

Amanda2003 Report 12 Oct 2009 20:02

Marion...........I would if I was speaking to them ........lol

They have been in there for two and a half years.........seemed ok to start with but they have a lot of cats ( all breeding ) and a poor little dog that keeps having litters of pups from their Alsatian ( and now her older pup son I guess ) ..................I lost my temper and told him a few weeks ago not to try and talk to me anymore because he just trots out a load of bull regarding the animals...........I used the " F " word several times so now I can't wind them up with ghost tales .

I'm just hoping them decide to up and move before much longer.

Hi, Amanda. We have a bad luck house not far from us. A young couple were the first to buy it and shortly after making their first mortgage payment the young woman died of a cerebral hemhorrage (sp). It was sold and the people who moved in were a couple who had split from their spouses and moved in together. He left awhile later and she committed suicide. From then on no-one has stayed long even though it's a lovely house.

Crumbs SueMaid...........that's awful : (

I do wonder if something sad / tragic has occurred at sometime next door .

Makes you think doesn't it .

If it's a rented house should they have so many animals?
I feel sorry for animals that go on breding.

I don't think that there is a limit as such on animals in council properties. Having said that I bet they lied about how many they had when they moved in .
I feel sorry for them too Marion , hence the outburst the other day . I told him it was the likes of them that where flooding the rescue homes with unwanted animals etc etc etc .
He had lied the other month and proudly declared that they had had all the girl cats " done " .........then I saw one of their dogs jumping about near a tiny kitten ( three weeks old ? )........it had carted a litter of three out into the garden .
RSPCA........have visited in the past ( been lied to and gone of happy that the animals they saw looked ok ) , which they do , they are fed and bushed and loved but the dogs are never walked and the breeding needs to stop.
I need to shut up now as I'm starting to fume.

There's a house opposite where I live and nobody wants to stay there long and when they put it up for sale they take ages selling it, in the end they drop the price so low that it sells, and its not long after the new people move in that its up for sale again, something about it makes people want to leave it.
And I live in number 13 and I do not feel its unlucky at all.

We once stayed in a strange little house in Norfolk (Overstrand). Weird little place; I didn't like it the moment I stepped over the threshold. My husband fell down the stairs in the middle of the night, knocked himself out and broke his wrist. He spent the rest of the 'holiday' in hospital!

Hi Amanda, if you think that the animals next door are neglected, then it is your duty to report it to the RSPCA.

In the fifties,we moved into a brand new Pit house. Most of the people around had come from substandard housing,to lovely warm houses with an upstairs bathroom.
The house next door to us never had the same family for more than 6mths.
My mother told me,when I was adult, that they all swore that it was haunted.
