Thanks Annina.
What I thought, so as my husbands Dad and Grandad were in Blackwatch, they must have been born in Scotland ?

Joan
I think the Blackwatch was different, that is what I am trying to find out. I think Blackwatch was restricted to scottish descendants ? The Whole Twiddy family appear to be in Blackwatch regiment going back several generations.
I think I will have to retrace family in Scotland !! Problem is family name could then have been Tweedy or Tweedie then !!
Thanks
Sandie

I have a feeling that during National service, men were put in any regiment that was under manned. My OH was a born and bred Londoner, and he was put in the Irish Guards!

Sorry Toddy, I misread your question. You can come from anywhere to join a regiment.,Durham is not far south of the boarder when all said and done.

As far as I know, there has never been any geographical bar to joining any regiment.
