How come there is no access to the 1881 census on this site?

It's because it's free on other sites such as Family Search, FMP and Ancestry.

I think you need a sub with the last two to view the images, though.

You are all correct, the 1881 census is free on the Mormom family search site. This is because the Mormons have undertaken to transcribe the Parish registers in this country which they have made a good job of with the International Geneological Index. (IGI).
They also decided to put the 1881 census on their site too which forced other sites provide it free as well.
The Mormons, or Church of Latter Day Saints to give them their correct title, are very organised about family research, not only in the States but all around the world. When they turn up on your doorstep its not by accident - its very well planned.
