Yes, Rose

Me too.

Rachel's husband is being promoted in his job (an international accountancy firm) and they provided a list of B and Bs. Helpful - not!

Rachel is taking up a brand new post - no help there

I'm surprised their new employers aren't helping them relocate. Have they contacted HR for advice?

Thanks Amanda. Me too!

And thanks, Kempsinasunhat. I wish my daughter and her husband (not mine!) had gone to someone like Hamptons.... but they didn't. - as I said, seduced by flashy website and suited salesmen.

They may very well find themselves in a YH yet!

cant you try a LARGE nation wide company like Haart or Hamptons .....I thought that most LARGE estate agents not only sell but rent propertys

The other way is for your hubby to ask this new company who they would suggest to rent a property from .......If your daughter is in a new job they may help to......

Some companies in London have houses to rent to staff when relocating ...well they use to coz my parents did it

good luck .........

really odd idea but there is alway YHA youth hostels as a last resort as you are now so close to their start date

Can anyone help please?

My daughter and her husband are due to move to London to take up new jobs on lst November.

They both took two days off work up here (Durham) 10 days ago, and hot-footed it down to London, with two days' worth of rented properties to see, via various estate agents, to whom they'd given their requirements (location, price ceiling etc)

The second agent - Foxtons - showed them three properties. Two were totally unsuitable (not in their location etc); the third was wonderful. Except a bit over their price bracket.

Encouraged by the agent, they put in a lower offer (£1450 a month instead of £1500) and off he went to the phone, armed with their references, jobs etc to contact the owner

Oh, joy - the owner had accepted their offer, but unfortunately she wasn't in London that day, and would come in to sign the lease the next working day (Monday). So they signed their copy.

Not being London-based, they put down the deposit (just shy of £4k - not exactly pocket money) and, having been told that it was "in the bag", the cancelled all the other viewings they'd got planned.

Monday came and "so sorry, the owner has decided to sell - would you like to consider one of our other properties?"

Call my an old cynic, but could that be because most people don't have a second £4k just hanging around, and time is getting short? So we'll take any of the other old rubbish you tried to offload.

Anyway, here we are, nearly two weeks later and

(a) the deposit has yet to be returned (apparently that takes 5 - 10 working days: amazing as it only took one working day to give them the money)

(b) not a sorry in sight

(c) now that I've done a bit of internet digging, I find that Foxtons is a flashy website, but not much else except a mountain of complaints. They're even the proud owner of a "we hate Foxtons" website, which tells numerous other stories of mysteriously mind-changing landlords, who accept offers and then decide to sell the next day.

Anyone else?
