I think it might be of great help... not enough is done to help service folk when they come home.... it seems always to have been the way, in most countries.

Both here and in America, a significantly high proportion of homeless people (men usually) are veterans of conflicts of one sort or another... this also seems to indicate an inability to settle back into *normal* communities and lifestyles at the end of their service.

I believe that more, much more, should be done... it always seems to me that other groups of people get a bigger slice of the care apple and services if they can't cope with what *normal life* is meant to be.

Our services, which includes paramedics, police, fire brigade etc... seem to be shrugged off with the commentor attitude *no-body made them do it, they volunteered and they were paid good money, so let them get on with it*. While this is true.... they put themselves on the frontline of the brutality of life... and when things become too much for them, we owe them a duty of care above and beyond.

"Virtual Iraq Helps Treat Post-Traumatic Stress
September 28, 2009

The Office of Naval Research is currently funding a program that uses videogames to treat post-traumatic stress in veterans of the armed forces.

Virtual Iraq, based on the title Full Spectrum Warrior, allows experiences to be tailored to each participant, so they can relive exactly what they went through, reports American Medical News. 3D goggles and a chair with feedback add further realism. So far, 20 participants have undergone treatment using Virtual Iraq with “positive results.” It’s thought that the familiarity of videogames helps lower resistance to being treated.

The article also notes that the United States Air Force is conducting a similar study with virtual reality treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. "

I watched this with interest, a former (US) serviceman suffering from PTS was shown saying that the use of the above had helped him ..not 100 % as it is something he has to live with daily....but it HAD made a difference.... It was also stated that there are no plans for British army to try it.

Should it be available here? is there enough help?
thoughts anyone ? :))
