Thanks for all your comments.......it seems to be a good service on the whole. My in laws seemed to think if it is free it can't be any good.....old fashioned ways.

McAnne, as folk here say it is for over 60s on certain benefits including pension credit. £3600 is available for the property and the idea is to improve how 'green' we are and save energy. Their surveyors decide what you need to make your property more energy efficient, be it a boiler if your old one can't be repaired, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation etc. If it costs less than £3600, then the balance remains for future repairs if you need them. If it costs more, then you just pay the extra. The scheme has been operating since 2000. Seems a good scheme to me.

Bob yes even old age benefit of tax credits for pensioners , but lady up road has just had her boiler done and had to pay something towards it ;;you can ring them and ask , I had mine done last year but I'm disabled so was allowed with benefit's I'm on ;;

Yes they do clean up but firm that came here young lad fitted it and the inspector went mad as there wasnt enough room to get hand at side of it for the pipe part they need to service it ;;;; Next lad who came to do service put the part pipe at the top of boiler so he could do it ;;

Does this scheme depend on either of the householders being on "ANY"benefits?

we are not, so are unable to get any extra loft insulation, or whatever......

we had warm front a few years ago loft insulation new jacket on water tank we equired again this year to see if we neaded any upgradeing and was given a number to

Ann, tell them to be careful as there are a lot of dodgy firms about who try to get money from people even though they are getting it through warm front.**M**.

We had Wall insulation put in under the scheme and the firm they used were excellent. I guess it will be different in each area. It will depend on the local contractors they use.

I don't have gas myself so not aware ............

In laws have applied as they need a new gas boiler etc. Has anyone else applied and were they good? How long did it take from applying? Did they clear up the mess?

In laws are very negative about it, so I am interested how others have found it.
