Has anyone had any shocks or found something interesting on 1911.

My shock was that 2 of my great grandparents had 16 children and 8 of them died. I thought I knew all their family history so I am still trying to get used to this.

An interesting thing was my great uncle and his wife ran a small boarding house in Grantham. One of the boarders was an Artist. Just out of interest I googled his name (Frederick Scarbrough) and found some of his beautiful pictures for sale through Christies of London fetching £2-3000. I hope he made some money while he was still alive.

I hope so too, what a lovely story Jennifer.
Mine were all Irish, Scottish, and Russian Jewish peasants!!!
Well, so far anyway.
I'm open to a bunch of multi millionaires though......
Step forward lads and lasses, I've been waiting for you.;-0)

Yes my grandparents had another child before 1911 that died so my mum was youngest of 13 not 12 as we thought

I found out from the census that my paternal gran had a baby sister who died not long after birth. I told my dad this and he said
"oh yes I know about that"! All the years I have been doing family history and he didnt tell me! I asked him why he didnt tell me, and he said "you never asked"! Grrrrr

I looked up the Irish 1911 census last week, my grand parents had ten children, only four were on the census, one had died and my uncle John must have been staying somewhere else that night. The rest was not born. The big surpise for me was that two brothers were born in Scotland not the one like we always thought. We always knew grand parents went to Scotland to find work and one of my uncle was born up there, but to find that two of them was born. I am now wondering if the uncle that missing from the census was born up there as well.

Sadly found a great grandfather in the workhouse, cannot find his wife although says he is married.

Also a grandma and a child out of wedlock, also in the workhouse.
