I know some one ( No names no pack drill) he is married with four children who works full time for a Charity at a very lucrative salary,plus a very nice car and a people carrier for his wife to use, all curtosy of the charity.needless to say I only give to Local Charities,Not the one he works for. Its no longer Charity as used to be known, but big Business, and time these Leeches were ferreted out and the money saved used for its main intention.**M**.

Did you know, by law, 'chuggers' are only allowed to take 3 paces towards you (if you're walking away), otherwise they can be acccused of harrassing you!
Heard that on the radio - an ex 'chugger' was confessing all.......

I think it is counterproductive also when you get the pre printed charity forms that have boxes to tick for set amounts...
eg, £15 , £25.... I tend to give to the ones that say "Anything you can give will help "

I know it helps the charity if they can forecast their income over a year, but I can't do that myself lol.

Not a bit Rose. I was stopped once and when I made the excuse that I didn't have my details with me they said they would walk up to the bank with me so I could get them. They were told in no uncertain terms to bog off

~~~~ Foggy, Amanda
I am the same with that Amanda, I prefer not to do direct debits if I can avoid them ...gives you room for 'juggling' lol , legacy of having to skip paying a bill for a few days ( or longer lol) to buy food :)
Most of these people doing this are paid on a commision basis,and it is (In my opinion) wrong to do this as it leeches money from the Charities Concerned,so they can pay the exceeedingly High Salaries of the top people running them.**M**.
I don't feel guilty either.
A young woman knocked on my door and asked if i would be willing to give my spare change to charity. I said I would - then, like you, Rose, she wanted to sign me up to a given amount each month! I pointed out that a direct debit was not giving 'spare change', it was a commitment - and one I wasn't prepared to give!
Personally I think it's awful.
I also dislike the 'chuggers' who stop you on the high street. They're a pain in the *rse - and paid - paid more than I could donate!
Never sign up on the street or at door. Ask for details to be sent to you so you can check them before signing for anything.
What annoys me is the stream of draw tickets I get from charities I have never contributed to, and those I do seem to do the same now. Pensioners probably support more as a group than most but there are unfortunately ,limits.
I don't feel guilty . I won't do direct debits for my own bills , let alone a charity ............ I'd much rather drop some coins in a box if I feel like it .
I was stopped in the shopping centre on my way home, a stand for Christian Aid, very nice young man asked me if I would commit to signing up to give £6 a month ( 20p a day) . It isn't a lot, but like most I am in a fairly precarious financial position and feel just can't give more than I already try to over a year, at least not yet.
But, I feel guilty now, it is so little which could do so much... do you feel pressured by the "we're only here this week please sign now" ?
