Where we lived in west ham the declared voltage was 200 volts AC, but the actual was often as low as 175 volts.....it was as Brian says upgraded to the standard 240 volts some time after the war, when west ham was re built after being mostly flattened by a certain corporals' lufwaffe....and rockets. |

He could have worked for a private company or a public supply, depending on the date, but if it was a dynamo, most likely a factory. |
