I have the Service Record of my late Father in Law who was conscripted during WW II and served with the Roayal Artillery in India. Was demobed after the war. I know serviceman in todays armed forces when they are posted overseas such as Northen Ireland recieve a medal. Can anyone tell me which MOD department I can make an enquiry with please?

Yes I do. I recently obtained my late father's War Medal. You contact the ministry of Defence Medals Office. Here is the weblink

On there you can download the necessary forms to apply for any unclaimed medals.

Where did you write to to get his service record John? My dad served in India and Burma, but I don't know his service number. He had about 5 medals I think, but I don't know what happened to them.

I have my fathers service record and the miniature dress medals he received.
His medals were handed to my fathers youngest son when my father died, and he SAYS that he gave them to his son!!
Huh huh... and I believe that.
I wanted them for my son.
One of my fathers pals from the regiment gave me the dress medals, bless him, and a couple of other things too.
Go on, get your medals, your dad earned them after all.

this is lovely that you are able to claim them,

keep them with pride when they arrive,
its sad that soldiers now have to sell them to make some money, sad for them that they earned them and cant keep them,

deanna,
those miniature medals sound lovely,
let your brother have the others and if he has passed um on to his son so be it,
id expect my brother to have my dads, (tho i understand you would like your, i really do, im not saying you shouldnt, its just the way things go isnt it, sons are handed things down like that, )
i think the minature ones sound better to have to display,
and what a lovely man your dads mate to give you stuff that he had found for you to look thru, sounds like you got the better deal, :-))
