If you buy a item from eBay only to find its been described wrong, do you go for a full refund including post & packing. item send back to seller at a further cost to me of £5.78 postage it cost me £5.50 in the first place, so do i go for the total or just the item price?

the item is on its way back to Germany, i hope he will get in the next few days, but will he only give back the item price, or the full postage cost also.
does eBay give any clues on this?

Monty,
Did you first inform the seller that the item didnt meet with their decription of the item,,,,,that gives them chance to reason with you first,,,,have you got a copy of the description as it appeared on the page?

The dispute comes when the seller disregards your complaint to them.....Ebay can then step in...

Kay, yes as soon as item arrived i informed the seller its not as described, he disputes this, so the only way i thought was to return item and he can see for himself, after i'd posted it back to him, he came up with i could have switched items and not return the item he sent me, he has a very good eBay record so i'm hopeing that all will go well, just getting ready for a dispute fight if needed.

Complain to eBay without delay.

Last year my son in law paid £750 via paypal for a set of speakers that never arrived. Emails from seller kept saying the goods had been sent. They never arrived. SIL complained to eBay and he got a refund toot sweet. It was a scam and my SIL wasn't the only victim.

Different scenario, I know, but I would still complain.
