A gedcom will only open inside some family tree software such as Family tree maker, or Legacy.
There are some free ones which you can download.

Hi Pamela,
The Gedcom file you've received needs to be uploaded into a family tree program. The file & its format is designed to work between the different family tree programs.

Keep the file received as it is & note where its been saved on your computer.

Then with the tree program you want t upload to. You' should be able to find a file for uploading Gedcom files (Some will automatically find your find the gedcom file). Others you'll have to direct it to the actual file.

If its an existing tree you're uploading to. Make sure that it is able to intergrate the two files.
