Why is it ?.... if you need it... you have thrown it out 6 months ago.

If you don't need it... it is just cluttering up space... chuck it out.... and you will need it in 6 months time.

My grandmother gave her victorian jug and bowl away to the local Rep for their amatuer plays in the 1920's. Mum said it was raining cats and dogs that night and the man arrived to collect them, dripping wet, he was; strapped them in his bicycle basket and went off, pleased as punch.

I would be pleased as punch to have them now! :-( Still, they went to a good home.

I can't see any future generations wanting our rubbish.

See.... I KNEW some of that 'tat' would be useful one day.
Grandson asked for a walking stick, needed for a prop in a theatre group play he's been working on, over half term

I knew just where to find one !!
I wonder where it came from? O.H. is 6ft and it is obviously for someone alot taller than him.

Hello

We haven't got a garage but cupboards.

In my quest to find new christmas cards and wrapping paper carefully brought in the sales, I begin to open them. I should have stopped right there.

Among the things found:

World cup scarf from 1990

Old kettle that doesn't work.

A recorder

Broken salad stick things... (I don't know what they are)

A silver jubilee mug

and.................school reports?!!!

Where does all this stuff come from?

Yaay - I've got lots of Sylvanian stuff (the original of course) in boxes in the attic too!!!!!
I had to go into the attic for youngest (26) daughter on Sunday - she wanted her GCSE results.
Whilst up there I looked around.
Have managed to 'foist' some (though not all - daughter put a stop to it) old Sindy and Disney dolls off on grand daughter - I even managed to get rid of a Sindy foal to my horse mad 22 month old Grandson on Sunday - and have found the horse to go with it - that will wait until next time, when the Sindy Kitchen will (hopefully) also go.


Why have I got two enormous globes in the attic? One is at least 50 years old!!!

I have lots of 'bits of wood' - very handy!

But







It will come usefull one day.

You are good!.... Yes a car in the garage would be great.
I think we have a trailer tent in ours, but it didn't show itself today under all the other items.

To Gwyn in Kent and all the other reluctant hoarders (after all, it's not our fault; most of us only collect endless files of paper!) - I could shed tears of frustration at the mountains of junk at times.

Ann in Glos - I am so envious; a CAR in the garage. I can't remember the last time our car was in there. The latest car is 5 years old and has NEVER spent a night under cover :(

I keep threatening the kids that I'm going to sell their junk on eBay; but would anyone make me an offer?

Feeling quite virtuous here. We cleared our shed out a couple of weeks ago and we actually have a car in our garage. Thought that was what they were for!!!!

Don't want to talk about it.

Or as the expression goes Don't even go there!!

I would roll around floor etc but it is concrete and none too clean.

I can imagine the scene, rather like here by the sound of it.
We too house a Sylvanian animals collection, plus their buildings.
Daughter owner still lives at home, but her brother and sister have moved out and live in clutter-free minimalist houses.
A set of golf clubs graces our porch. OH has never played golf as far as I know, but our son bought a set of clubs when he decided to play. Some are still wrapped.
I noticed a Wuzzle today too. Must check which daughter owns that and hopefully re-home it.

I suppose I should be grateful that the helicopter blade has now gone.!!

I'm pleased to read about all these sheds and garages. Ours is the sort of house that any flat surface gets covered in minutes. Is it Me? Our 3 children left home years ago but we still have:

Daughter's Royal Collection in cardboard boxes
Ditto Sylvanian families, My Little Ponies, Disney toy collection.
Son's books and broken computers (loads of these, he's a PC engineer)

I haven't even got to the garage yet. I won't invite you in; there's not room for more than one person, standing. It's actually long enough to fit two cars in nose to bumper :(

Buckets and spades, - some with Dymchurch sand still clinging

Pram chassis, - bodywork of pram yet to be discovered

Bike rack x 2, used once or twice

Kitchen cupboard, - left by previous house owners, but looks useful

Wrought iron plant stand, - I'll plant that up one day

Sledge with clip on back, - brought home from Germany in 1985, where I couldn't have shopped without it.

Leaf rake, - who put that in there?

Tombola drum and Treasure Hunt peg board, - daughter was asked to look after these for a local school. They were completely forgotten and will be returned after half term.

.These are just some of the items that came to light today

Gwynne, There was no useful wood, OH doesn't do D.I.Y Just one thin piece of ply was found and used as a slide to get flat packs out of their gap.

Serious sort out next week, when I'm less busy.!

Seems I'm not alone though in storing clutter.
Some of you have similar 'stocks'.
Our's is for 6 people. They'd better make their claims or it will be going.

I've always been a hoarder, but its surprising how often I have 'just the thing' when it is needed! Thats if I can remember where I put it. No one else would find anything thats for sure!

Our garage got stuffed with heavens knows what when we moved 5 yrs ago.It's all still there,plus the 12x8ft shed,the coalhouse,the caravan,the pantry and the loft.

I rue the day that my hubby discovered auction sales.

I can't believe that we are looking for a bungalow, we will have to camp on the lawn in a tent!!

No garage - all the tat in the shed, attic and cupboard under the stairs - that is if it isn't lying around the house!
