well, that's it........

The van is packed, the jobs are secured, and my beautiful daughter and her husband are London-bound in the morning.

I know it's payback time for them for all the years they've put in at Uni, but I'm missing them already - and they haven't even gone yet!

My eldest was shocked that i hadn't left her bedroom as a shrine to her!
As soon as she moved out, I was in there with the paintbrush giving it a few coats of white paint - well quite a few actually - she'd painted the room purple! It felt good 'reclaiming' it LOL

Hi Amanda, and thanks very much for your understanding -as ever.

I so much want them to follow their careers, and I do know that they can't do that up here in the north. But it won't stop me missing them!

(if you're around tomorrow evening, maybe you could e mail me and let me know how you and yours are doing - particularly Rachel)

Hello Sue...............I've been cut off of the Internet for eight whole days ( rolls eyes in insane manner )........lol

I can't work out how to re-arrange my e-mail address.........I so wish I wasn't a computer thick- o................lol

I can recommend making yourself a craft room when child(ren) leave the space in the home .....surround yourself with glue and felt , humbrol paints and pieces of wood ( it works for me............lol ). You might like to create a shoe show room instead : )) .......what ever works best for you really...............lol

Amanda - just what I've done ........
except it's taken over two bedrooms.
4 dolls houses in differing states of disrepair, with a bed squeezed in for when my grand daughter stays.
She loves 'granny's mess' LOL

Lol.............great isn't it Maggie....lol

The bonus for " loosing " them I suppose ?

I've converted " that " room for 22 years........lol...........and now it's mine all mine !

I just need a good old scruffy table in it to make it complete : )

Good luck with the dolls houses . I was eyeing up the draws and wood that my OH has stowed in the loft with visions of dolls houses dancing through my head....lol............but he wouldn't let me loose on them.

maggiewinchester Report 30 Oct 2009 00:19

Amanda,
You need to ask yourself 'how long have they been there' then put it to your OH that they could be much better utilised!
My daughters keep asking me when I'll get one house finished - I point out it's a hobby - I can take as long as I like!!!

My girls "left" a few years ago but their stuff is still here! Neither has a large enough home to put it in.
I have said as soon as they have lofts and cupboards they must take it all away!

Though running a Guide unit I must admit a lot of the boxes and bits and pieces belong to my Guides! LOL

Then my craft stuff is all over the place and has long since escaped beyond my tiny studio in the loft.

And the family history files are making one bedroom look like an office.

I've started casting greedy eyes over husband's workshop LOL

YES! It's adult play time-the kids have finally gone you say?Just waite they will be back. In our case #1 beloved son came back-with 5 cars in tow!
he then filled my back garden with them. I wasn't a keen indulgent mother.
What really got me was, I had spent the previous summer nurtering the grass. You could have nearly called it LAWN!! But did he even so much as ask?
Mothers be prepared -yes the do return like assie boomerangs!
And yes we love them dearly-would we have it any other way-oh no!

Oh Sue - congratulate yourself on bringing up your daughter to have the courage to pick up sticks and move on to a new life with her husband. You've given her a great start - well done, lady.

I wish them all the best in their new life Sue. One of the advantages of us moving after son (daughter had gone several years before) moving out was that he had to take his clutter and put it in his loft as we were not moving it with us. We turned our spare rooms into offices for us with a put you up and a blow up bed for grandchildren to stay on and it worked for us. The children and Grandchildren know they are always welcome and we each have our own 'space'.
