I had my Tanisha, a Rottweiler, soppy mare she was,she was a year old, and having a phantom pregnancy. The we bought our puppy Zeus home...well Tanisha thought it was her "baby"..she mothered him and fussed over him. I have it all on camcorder..........

My advice, treat them like kids, supervise them at all times....a pecking order will soon be established and then hopefully, they should be ok..........

All my sisters dogs have always accepted a new member to the family .She has never had a problem. It may depend on the breed of dog as to how well they accept another.

So even if they do not hit it off immediatly, I should not worry as these things take time Muffy.

Please everyone leave me your advice and I will read them tomorrow.
Good night all

As long as the older dog knows that you are tha top of the pecking order, you shouldnt have any trouble.

My mum wouln't cage animals, and we had cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits and even a bad-tempered parrot, all free and getting along famously.

My Dog Oscar has always been timid and thats why I worry about getting another dog.
When Oscar was 12weeks old he became ill with pneumonia and made a good recovery only to get it again a year later, and he has been very clingy ever since, he also was slow to grow and develope and although he is three he is like a 1yr old.
So today I went and showed him some dogs and he was absolutely petrified and I knew then that Oscar would have to stay an only dog.
So no more Dogs for me.

Hello Agatha..........just wondering . Did you take your Oscar to a re-homing centre to see these other dogs ? maybe it was the place that made him nervous ?...........just a thought .

I took Oscar to a relative who he knew well but had never been to her house before and when her dogs approached him, and they wer smaller than him, he just cowled away from them he was really scared of them.

Agatha
I do have 2 dogs with the second one arriving a yr after the 1st. Mini at 3yrs old refused to interact nicely with other dogs around us. She was fine when we got 8week old Minx a yr after she came to us but did bully her a bit. Now 4yrs on Minx is the bully and my place can seem like world war 3 has broken out.

Oscar may take to an older dog but not a bumbling puppy, even if he stays an only dog it would still be good for him to interact with other dogs who are gentle, who knows 1 day he may find the perfect partner.
Don't give up

My sister has 3 dogs up until yesterday and now she has 4 lol.Her OH heard that a dog was in great need of rehoming and drove to Oxford yesterday afternoon.A very neglected and unloved bitch in season very thin and in need of TLC.They got her home and the other 3 welcomed her with no problem.
She is off the the vet tonight for a health check, worm ,flea treatment ,nail cut and microchip. Then booked for spaying ASAP lol

I think it would be a good idea if Oscar gets to know other dogs Uzzi but I think I will have to introduce him to them gradually.
