Precisely, Rose - "the decision to refund or otherwise would be the traders', which would, I assume, mean we all decide to shop in those stores which will still offer that option".

Nobody's stopping stores offering this option - you pay your money, you take your choice.

Another example of the mis-representation of all things European by the headline-grabbing press of Middle England. Get back to your ubiquitous commentaries on house prices. It sells your papers.

By the way, do you currently offer a refund on the £1.30 cover price of your paper If I don't like what I've bought? No? I thought not!

That'll be one of the clauses we won't have an opt out on then !!!!..typical !!!!

Don't start me on Europe ...........I only have to hear the words *Lisbon Treaty* and the steam comes out of my ears !!!!!

Just reading , as I hadn't seen it

"The Committee highlighted the potential loss of the UK Consumers’ “right to reject”, whereby they currently have the right to reject faulty goods outright and choose between a refund and a replacement. Under Article 26 of the European Commission’s proposals, the choice of remedy would rest with the trader and there would be no automatic right to a refund in the first instance."

so this implies that the decision to refund or otherwise would be the traders', which would, I assume, mean we all decide to shop in those stores which will still offer that option ?

Who's the most stupid? The EU for trying to impose stupid rules on the UK or us for letting it happen?

Trouble is we'll just have to do as they dictate.

Surely if the goods are faulty they're 'not fit for purpose', and would come under the Trades Description Act.

At the EU are now saying that we now have no right to a refund if we buy faulty goods.
