I am going on holiday at Christmas to Austria. The problem is I have heard that there could be air cabin crew strikes at Christmas. I am going for 1 week but should I take out cover for more than that just in case I get caught up in these strikes or would my weeks cover be sufficient?

I'm not sure how that works.
We take out insurance to cover over the year. We found it a lot cheaper to do.
Might be worth looking into.

The one we have covers us,even if we are away more than two days in this country.
I'd also check they you are covered for strikes.

If it was us we wouldn't take it for longer than a week. Your E111 (Health insurance for the EU) will cover you for basic health. We are not sure that normal travel insurance covers strikes.

Maybe if you are worried take it for 8 days in case of a one day delay, otherwise wouldn't worry.

We always take an annual insurance anyway.

What I am worried about is being stuck in Austria and the insurance company says tough your insurance has run out so you have to find your own way home.

Go into the travel agents and ask them for advice. Even if you havent booked with them...they dont know you have allready booked.

What ever you look at read the small print.
We also have the what was called the E111, it something else now.
but still have insurance, as you still need your bags and contents,delays cancelations etc covered.

Google online you will probably find your answer there.For the sake of a few £'s extra I would make sure you are covered.

If you take out usual insurance, and check it covers you for strikes, you should automatically be covered for as long as it takes to get you home etc, but just double check with the company you book with.

If you're paying by credit card you might find that the credit card company provide travel insurance as part of their package.

I went to the travel agents I booked the holiday with and they told me not to bother taking out extra insurance in case of a strike. they said it would be upto the airline to look after you or failing that they (Thomas cook would look after us). They also said it would be very unlikely that we get caught up in any strike as it doesnt usually effect the charter flights only long haul flights. I'm not sure whether that bits true of not.

I will just have to take there advice and keep my fingers crossed.

I think it is true that as a general rule it is long haul flights that are affected. However strikes can mean delays for everyone if there are delays at airports. I thought it was only BA cabin crews talking of strikes.
