is shaking ... won't eat, fireworks going ...

I do like fireworks just not the effect they have on animals. Off to comfort him and thinking of all the others affected by them.

Bless poor wee thing my cat alice is the same she hates them hides below the bed will be glad when its all over i dont let her out after teatime on bonfire night

Awe Shimms, my heart goes out to you and Cass. My current dog is not bother by it, but I have had ones in the pst who have been greatly toubled. And it is not Nov 5th unitl tomorrow, and I bet we get it all weekenf aswell

Shimms ,Chester is just the same but he just keeps running backwards and forwards and nothing I do can settle him.Touch wood we haven't heard fireworks yet.I know in the kennels he used to go to ,they put drops of Rescue Remedy in the water bowls.

Hi Shimms, try putting all the lights on and turning the telly up distraction is best i know its hard but try not to fuss her as you are rewarding her behaviour, my old lad we lost last year was petrified of them, there is also a cd called scarey sounds available from your vets.

My heart goes out to these poor animals.

I always worry about all the animals in the fields and the birds as they have no-one to comfort them.OH thinks I am barmy lol

the other hides in the shed

It is so sad and you feel so helpless and want to do so much for them, but somehow can't really. only love & cuddle them.

We had a dog that suffered terribly when fireworks were about. She got so distressed that I often thought she would have a heart attack.
But, the last dog we had, a beautiful cream labrador loved seeing fireworks and would sit in front of the patio doors and watch them. He was the same with thunderstorms and would sit there watching the lightning flashing.

One of my cats, Betty is terrified by them!
She used to run out the cat flap(?), then decided the cupboard under the stairs was best.
She's long haired and spent her time, whilst hiding, scratching herself and pulling her fur out. This (the scratching) caused scabs, which caused her to scratch more. I bought a brush and started brushing her - she loves it - but I only do it occasionally (don't want her to think she can stop grooming herself!), and if I catch her in time, as long as she is being brushed she forgets about the fireworks - could lead to RSI in my arm though!
Last year, if I didn't brush in time, she hid under my bed. this year she's found the bathroom cupboard with the towels in - handily right by the radiator!
Methinks the brushing is working - she's finding increasingly comfortable places to hide!! LOL

The fireworks you can purchase today are miles more powerful than say 20 yrs ago & cheaper.......Also they're used over a much longer period. Its seem most weekends from mid Oct to Jan, there are fireworks being set of.

I don't want to sound like an old grumpy. But the noise of these affects pets, wildlife & people alike.

I think they should ban the sale of fireworks & should just be used for public displays.

I shudder to think of the effects of these loud whizzes, bangs and flashes on the local wild birds.

Our two elderly cats aren't bothered, though one of them used to get scared.

Our late dog loved fireworks. We used to see them from the local park when we had a town show in the summer. He used to come outside and watch with me.
