I remember getting some tins of steak and some butter when there was a surplus, as I was a single Mum at the time!! I probably still have a tin of steak in the pantry lol

I think lots of different charities and churches etc help out like this.

I remember that although didn't join in, that was quite a few years back when there was a so called butter mountain.

I said on chat that's it's a church (not mainstream) who are providing these parcels. Recommendations via GPs, CAB, social services and Ceredigion Care.

It's really quite upset me to think that we are in such dire straights locally that this service is necessary.

The usual thing Sue will be that those who really need it wont know about it and will slip through the net, or, as you say will not collect them through misplaced pride.

Announced in our local paper that food parcels containing enough tins/packets to feed a family for three days are being given out to those struggling.

FGS this is Britain in 2009 and we are making ever more retrograde steps where social welfare is concerned.

God help the poor pensioners this winter. If they have a large heating bill they can (and should) collect one of these parcels. I imagine that many wont though pride!

I hope the fat cats in Westminster feel some bloody shame!
