Deb, I'm so sorry. I haven't been on here very often because we're away at the moment and I've only just seen this. My thoughts are with you and remember as long as you hold him in your heart he is by your side.

First of all I would like to say a big thank you for all the lovely thoughts, both on here and FB.

Saturday was a great day. I didn't have any tears left, and besides, we were celabrating Dad's life. There was a wonderful turrnout at the Legion.
Dad's pipeband did him proud. There was even a piper that traveled from Campbell River (on the Island) to pipe with his band and show his respect.

The formalities were kept to the Legion.
On the way home I made a point of announcing that we were now going home and REALLY celebrating Dad's life.

We all drank too much (especially Irish whisky) and sang too much, and danced too much. My husband doesn't usually drink, but he had a hangover Sunday morning!

Dad was with us throughout the day, My mum took pictures both at the Legion and back here. We have counted over 37orbs in the pics.

I love my dad, but I am comforted knowing that he is still with us.

Deb, I am so sorry to read of your sad loss and hope the happier memories will bring you comfort as well as tears. My sympathy to all your family and friends of your Dad.

You have just gone through the first of the 'firsts' but I am sure your Dad was with you all the way. In fact reading back, you have passed two of them, with your anniversary celebrations too, congratulations on 30 years of marriage. How lovely that your children arranged such a celebration and you all felt strong enough to go ahead knowing your Dad would have wanted it that way.

I saw Gordon Smith a medium, last evening at a book signing and the things he was telling us were so comforting, he lost his own father earlier this year so spoke in a very nice way about things and reassured us that our loved ones are never far away. He told us that his Dad drifted and then came back to them briefly, saying Is that what is like Gordon? All the family gone before were there, they all looked so young and were hugging me. Gordon said, Yes Dad, that would be how it is, if you see them again and want to go with them, it will be alright. A little later his father closed his eyes and joined his loving family waiting for him.

I will be thinking about you as you say your farewells on Saturday and toast your Dad.

I had an emotional day today.

My dad and myself, have for the last few years, spent November 11th together. It was my yearly "date" with him.

November 11th here is a national holiday.

He played in a pipeband here in the Vancouver area. He has been a piper since he was about 13, playing for the Liverpool 8th Irish.

Each year we travel on the "bus" and go from Legion to Legion with his band. The band are in full dress uniform. There is also a group of RCMP in their red serges who come with us.

This year I took his feather bonnet with me (the tall ostridge feather hat) on the bus.
Dad was with us all the way.

One hurdle down, just Saturday to deal with now. The pipe band will be there in his honor.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad Deb.

The loss of a parent is a hard thing to bear. Although time will heal most of your pain. You'll always be left with a small hole in your heart. With which you'll fill with happy memories & he'll also visit you on your dreams (mine does).

Also I think the actions of your children, have done both yourself & your dad proud.

I would like to thank you all for your heartfelt wishes, they mean a lot at this time.

To say that I am devastated is an understatement.
We were all able to say a last goodbye to him before they shut down his life support. That was the hardest thing for me. I'm sure that he heard me.
I take comfort in the fact that the only two to get a response from him were my children, his only two grandchildren. They were talking to him and he fluttered his eyes and moved his hand.

My children had had a surprise 30th wedding annivarsary planned for us for last night. They had been working on it a long time. They went ahead with it as that was what my Dad would have wanted. It was so nice to be around close friends and family.

We will be celebrating Dads life next Saturday at 2pm. If you happen to have a drop of Scotch in the house at 10pm your time, please raise your glass and wish him well on his journey.
