Dear All

Hello

On 7 November 1980, the 'King of Cool' american actor Steve McQueen passed away, aged only 50.

He starred in classic films like the The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, The Thomas Crown Affair, Bullitt, The Getaway, Papillon and The Towering Inferno.

He received an Academy Award nomination for his role in The Sand Pebbles. In 1974 he became the highest paid movie star in the world. His last film role was in "The Hunter".

He was offered many other fim roles which he turned down including, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Apocalypse Now and The French Connection.

He was the first choice for director Steven Spielberg for Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the role eventually went to Richard Dreyfuss. He was offered the the title role in The Bodyguard (opposite Diana Ross) when it was first proposed in 1976.

McQueen was an avid motorcycle and racecar enthusiast and performed many of his own stunts.

His third wife Barbara Minty McQueen wrote a book about him in his later years, entitled Steve McQueen: The Last Mile.

To this day, Steve McQueen remains a much loved and iconic figure.

Rest in peace Mr McQueen and thank you.
