got grandaughter a poppy at shops today, she loved it and the man gave her big sticker too,

at here after she said about poppys and i said they for soldiers,
she said like daddy? (cos daddy and bampy were soldiers taht she knows)
i said well not really , cos daddy came home didnt he, and he comes home every day to you, but some soldiers cant ever come home, and the poppys to show you think of them,

shes a darlin, shes going to see a parade tomorrow wieht mammy,
and daddys marching as part of the british legion in his area,
she doesnt know it yet, but hes thinking of her joining him , its not a huge parade, so she may do, (if daddy offers shes fine),

why is it i can explain somethin like that
but if me or her mam say ' can you just pass me blah de blah by the sofa please babe' and point to it, shes looking round room like to say, wot on earth did they just say then

Julie, it's probably because you had her full attention when she asked about the poppies and you explained (in a lovely way, I would add) but when she is engrossed in something and you ask her to fetch something or such, she doesn't take it all in straight away cos her mind was elsewhere.

She sounds lovely, hope it doesn't rain for the parade.

And I think I might be able to answer your question!!

When you explained to her what poppies were for, she was able to ask you a question, and you answered it (as Liz said, beautifully)

But when you ask her to get blah de blah for nanny please, down by the sofa...... that is known as a multiple command sentence.... and by the time a two year old has got to the end, she will most times have forgotten the beginning!

Try breaking it up into two or three separate sentences... like *where's nannnie's blah de blah* give her chance to answer... then say aw, there it is (or clever girl if she points it out to you) and then say.. aw, will you fetch it for me, please... if she hasn't *found it* point it out as though it is a game... then ask her to fetch it! It needs a response each time from her... so that her interest is kept totally on what you want!

At two, they understand quite complex things, but still need sentences broken down a little.... I love them when they are that age... well, I love them always, but they are so innocent, and enquiring, honest as well at the toddler stage... bless her.

madam did manage to go with daddy , she wore her beautiful red dress, she loves wearing a frock,
and daddy carried her, she loved the band playing, and asked mammy at the end , wheres all the men gone in there uniforms, and music,
shes a propper little lady,

but a chilly day, tho she enjoyed it,
thats what its about introducing the kids to it early isnt it,
shes so easy to tell things to aswell, tho sometimes she says wot you mean? and you have to reword it,

shes great to take anywhere
