Same address in 1881 but there are no other stores on that street. He's listed as a provision merchant.

I googled shops in S. Shields in 1891 and found this:

Hi guys

I have a birth cert of one of their children which show as 2 addison street south shields, however after speaking to the local musem guys they dont believe there was a shop in that street?

It also shows in the 1891 as shop keeper his name was George Thompson from South shields

did he not live at or above the shop ...prehaps the shop is the address thats on the records

My great grandfather was a shop keep and general dealer on his records. Is there any way of finding out where his shop would have been? hope you can help
