GR MATCHES

Had email today, as I assume everyone did, about contacting members about possible relatives. Well, yes, that's great, BUT why, when you do, do so many not even open the email?? Even if they do, there are those who don't even bother to reply with an "it's not my relative"!!!!! I sent off 3 about a month ago, and so far only one has been opened, but not replied to. If nothing else, it's downright rude.
Had to get that off my chest!

Exactly!! But the ones I sent to were in Hot Matches, so you assume they are current members!! It's happened to me before, and I got so frustrated, I deleted them after I'd given them a two month chance.

I've been eagerly awaiting replies from one or two people I have contacted recently too. Perhaps GR could tell us which people on here are not current members so that we would know it was a waste of time contacting them? It only needs a little symbol by the name in the hot matches.

It's one of those things you think would be obvious which they don't do!

I may be wrong, but if you get a hot match you can do a tree search to find matches added within a certain time,1 day 1 week etc so you should be able to back-check that way ??

This doesn't sound like a Hot Match but rather one of the "We've found a possible match" message that GR seem to send out at random from time to time.

This topic of members responding or otherwise does come up regularly at least once a month.

At the end of the day nothing beats doing your own searches and you are far more likely to get a response from someone who has added names recently.

Oh and by the way, there is no concept on GR of a 'current' or lapsed member. All members who have their name on the site are effectively current.

Someone may not be regularly active on here, but that is not the same thing.

Incidentally I contacted two people a month ago. They turned out to be brother and sister. The brother had died 4 years ago.
