Whoaaaaa

I have been doing other peoples trees lately and 1 is for a friend here for her birthday.
One branch of her ancestors who she knows none of own a large furniture store in Sussex and have done since 1883 .

So me in my wisdom decided to email the store to see if they had any old photographs and/or documents, not really expecting much back.
I have just had a reply from the owner himself who has been collecting the history himself and does intend one day to document it but is happy to send me all that they have. and has requested a chat with me. very nice letter it was.

There are some good folk out there !

I'm hoping friend will be over the moon , as I am trying not only to put it in gedcom form but also to put it in hard copy in a proper binder and all that stuff.

Persephone lol yes fantastic customer service and so quick also 3 days for a reply but I sent the original mail to the store at the weekend !

Thats smashing.

I had the other week a lovely clergy man go to a city archive find a photo of a church in its former glory,got it copied and wouldnt except any monies for it. he was fasinated himself as it was rebulit many many years ago and had never seen what it formally looked like so was really intrested that its got him now thinking to get a project going.:}
so its sparked his interest in family history!
it s now with our cuz in OZ...so yes there are some really helpful people out there

I have also e-mailed a pub chain in the area as for most of the 1800's the family was landords of the 1 pub ....so we will see if that brings any results.

fascinating stuff this genealogy lark !!

That's brilliant Uzzi. Also shows how good e-mail is!
Unlike the phone - it doesn't put people 'on the spot', it isn't as formal as a letter, and can be replied to almost instantly!
