sometimes the time of birth is recorded which will establish which twin is the elder. Would have thought if two live births occurred then there would be another record of the twin.otherwise why record a time of birth if the twin died as the time the surviving twin was born is irrelevant.
guess the only way would be to get the death cert to see if its the same family .a child's death is recorded under the occupation column as son or daughter of ,and the father's name, you could use dads name as a checking point.
is the death record the same qtr as the birth record?

Had another thought !! check the 1911 census to see how many children the parents have recorded and the status of those children ie born of the marriage and surviving children

just had a look, and it is stated that three children died, however with this twin that i found that makes four would have died,i am now thinking that if the baby was still born it would not have had a mention,as the colonm asks for children born alive,
The death details that i found gives the childs name as micheal, why wouldnt his birth have been registered with this name?......."E" x

Maybe Michael only lived for a few mins after birth so they only reg the death. If you know of the three that died then maybe this isnt one of your family I guess the only way is to buy the death cert.
Another thought just occurred !! Some registrars did record birth times for single births depending on how meticulous they wanted to conduct their registers.

If it is only a number and not a time, then the registrar could have made an error by putting the name in the sex column, the number would refer to the number of corrections in that register.
