lots of layers and keep feet , hands and head warm, if you can't afford to heat the whole place , stay in one room and keep that as warm as you can , make sure draughts are stopped under doors , a rolled up towel will do.

and most important if you are entitled by virtue of age or illness to extra help with insulation , do take it up, ask your local council, or energy supplier , or CAB.

And please keep an eye on the elderly, who may not realise that they are cold until hypothermia has already taken hold.

i know old people are sometimes not easy to be around
but check on your neighbors if they are old

remember if your neighbour is old and YOU find their house cold, it will be colder to them.

Layers as Rose said. 4 layers are warmer than 1 wooly thick jumper
Sleep on your mornings clothes so they are warm.

My late neighbour (who lived to be nearly 100) always took her clothes for the next morning to bed with her and scrambled into them before she could get cold.

She never had central heating until she moved into a Care Home.

I often went into her house on a snowy morning to find her standing by her open back door 'getting some air'!

She was born in 1899; they don't breed them so hardy nowadays.

bed socks! not sexy lol, but most definitely worth putting on before you get into a cold bed .

Birdi I have often taken clothes to bed. not because I was old but skint, so they were warm and pressed.

My elderly neighbour's house was a treasure trove of antiques.

She wasn't short of a few bob; she was just set in her ways.

When we moved into this house 30 years ago with 2 kids and another on the way we were flat broke. Happy to have the house, but so cold! I remember wrapping the children in layers for bed (snowed like Billy-o as soon as we moved in) and making beds wearing a duffle coat!
