Well Dizzi you are so lucky.

I had to go to London last week, underground trains do not all have seats that face inwards (that means I have to be physically pulled up from a seat). The gap between the train and platform at Penge was approx 18 inches, absolutely terrifying when you use a crutch and one leg doesn't obey brain signals. Getting in a London Taxi is nigh on impossible without help from two brawny men (which I had with me).

All in all I envy you the many trips you manage as do other GR members who are disabled.

Despite your disability you are one lucky woman to be able to go out so much.

So many more people cannot find the support or money to do so.

Why do you assume people begrudge you anything Dizzi? It's almost as though you're inviting it.

Lots of us have said you are very very lucky to be able to get out and about so much. It goes without saying you probably couldn't do it on your own, without a support network.

I spent nearly two years hardly able to go anywhere, because of my arthritis and having to deal with my OH who rarely gets out. I know what it's like.

But when you start getting so negative, that's when people comment along the lines of 'think yourself lucky', because you are you know.

I dont begrudge you anything Gwen

Good for you if you can get out with the aid of a support network

It just annoys me that you keep on moaning you never go out & that you have no support - when clearly you do, and are in a better position than most people who really cant get out far less or not at all due to their conditions or illnesses.

Your cup is always half empty.

Since I have known gwen, I have always found her positive. She is a great advocate for living and enjoying herself with a disability. I think she likes to remind people that it can be done. Good on you gwen :)

Its nice to know it can be done, but in our area there is no transport to get help with! Add to that a disabled husband with an 'IT cant be done' attitude means you are fighting a losing battle. Good luck, Dizzie
We have a system for transport to hospital when needed, so no need to miss appointments, but no help visiting.

I am with Lesley.Good on you Dizzi.
I was disgusted the other day with someone who said you should be thankful you JUST had Parkinsons!!!!.It's good to hear everytime you get out and about.

I wonder if I can add now?

Dizzi, i am sure no one begrudges you the chances you have to get out and about. it is no mean feat to do so with Parkinsons, for lots of reasons.

Living where I do now, I travel on buses which can 'lower' to the kerb, and have spaces for wheelchairs, when they get to the under cover shopping centre with its big open doors and ramps I never fail to think how much my mum would have appreciated being able to go there, just to see something 'different' . Ditto on the mainline trains here where the stations are staffed .

I do think many people mean you are 'lucky' in that you DO have some support , and live in an area where help can be asked for. Country places ( Wales in mum's case) are not well served with transport at the best of times even for the able bodied .
