The nativity thread last night, reminded me of the many school concerts we used to have to do. What are your recollections of school concerts?

I was in several, some singing in the school choir, some playing the recorder. They were all pretty much the same, just us lot singing or accompanying a selection of songs for the evening, with parents looking on, endless rehearsals and the music teacher nearly having a seizure at every one of them.

I do remember one, at primary school, where the music teacher stopped us singing at the actual performance and gave us all a dressing down for getting it wrong yet again. I don't know who squirmed most, us or the parents LOL

My favourite was in secondary, we did a sort of caberet. There were solo performances with guitar, folk songs, choral, orchestral, but our year did a long performance, where the girls had to wear long skirts and low-cut tops, and the boys wore neckerchiefs and flat caps, to look a bit Victorian working class. We sang well known songs, 'Gonna wash that man right outta my hair,' 'There is nothing like a Dam' Oom pah pah (from Oliver) among others. The stage was set like a pub, and I loved every minute of that one.

All I can remember is a girl called Monica Bonnie who played the xylophone, wore a short blue satin dress, white tap shoes and had a fake tan (yes in THOSE days!).....she played and tapped...and we all sniggered! lol BCXX
