The student who peed on the memorial in Sheffield was in court today and spared a prison sentence.
My gt Uncle is mentioned on that memorial, and I am sure that he would not wanted this youths education ruined by one drunken mistake.
Isn't it about time to forgive and forget and let him get on with his life?
Why they didn't just make him scrub it in the first place I don't know.
Yours, niece of private Arnold Timm, killed at Galipilli 1915 RIP

Unfortunately i think people of a certain type not necesarily age will do things like this 1 because they know they will get away with it and 2 they are not taught respect either in the home. Yes i do think they should be made to clean up there mess and also to appologise to the people who they have offended by this - being drunk is no defence. Im 32

Yes Mark, I agree but I would have imposed a tougher sentence. Every Saturday morning for a year he would go and clean the memorial. That would make him think twice. More common sense is needed in dealing with people who do things like that - not jail sentences at the tax payers expense

Well-he did get a Community Service order and a lecture from the Judge (or Magistrate) who took into account his extreme contrition !!

On the night in question, new students were actively encouraged to get drunk by the authorities. All the pubs in that area were instructed to ban all but student customers going in.

Yes, he behaved like a stupid lout, but I think he has been shamed enough, and I am sure has learned a painful lesson.

I was only yesterday looking at gt Uncles army record, and on more than one occasion put on jankers for being drunk, and he five yrs older.

The people that I feel most sorry for, are his parents,so from a relation mentioned on the memorial,I forgive him, lets let the matter rest.

he made a big mistake, very disrespectful, which i'm sure he has learnt from.and being punished for.he seems a decent lad from a good background.
there are far more troublemakers idoling around with no intention of looking for work and expecting us to pay their way for them and getting themselves in trouble at the sametime.
i hope he is able to put it behind him and continue with his studies
i wish him luck for the future
