I am not sure if this is the right board to put this on but here goes, my brother was told he had prostate cancer 6-7 months ago , and was recieving sick benifit for that amount of time BUT has been told that he can no longer get it as he has been on it for six months . he is due to retire at the end of january to take his pension but they wont let him take that early so in affect he will have no money coming in. could any one who has had this happen please advise me on what he should do? thank you . msc p/s should have said they wont give him another sick note to cover him till he retires

His employer should give him a form which states "Why I can no longer pay SSP". It used to be a yellow and brown form but no idea what the number of it is. It's very straightforward, as in his case it's because he has received SSP for 28 weeks which is the maximum allowed.
I think he then needs to inform DSS. He must be entitled to some benefit but I have no idea which one.
It may be best to contact your local MacMillan Nurses as they will give advice on any benefits he may be entitled to.
