That brings back a memory Bob, when i was kid and I had a cold my mum would give me bread dunked in bovril ( like soup) said it would "act as a poultice on my throat" :) The way I feel tonight I might try it !

Joy the version I remember was bread soaked in near boiling water, in a sock type thingy and wrap that around the neck.......
