Mi poor old springer Merlin has to have his eye removed tomorrow. We got him from springer rescue where he had spent 3 and a half years because he was blind, he had had glaucoma. He does not need sight because his nose is so good, should I say he smells..... He can smell me bite into a sarnie from his bed upstairs. We have had him nearly 4 years and knew this may be on the cards but it is still a shock. The removal of the eye will stop it swelling and giving him pain so it will be best for him. Only took him to the vets tonight and they operate in the morning, needs doing fast. will let you know how he gets on.Elaine.

Hope all goes well Elaine poor mite. still it is best if it is likely to give him pain. We had two dogs that went blind, they are marvellous aren't they

It's ironic isn't it, if it were you or me needing an op we would be on a waiting list, our beloved pets get far better treatment than any of us.

Oh now I have the answer to my question in the reply to your pm Elaine.

Hope the op goes ok and poor old Merlin is happier and more comfy once everything heals and he adapts to the change altho if already blind it won't make any difference to him, will it? Great that he copes so well already.
Will be thinking of you both and glad it can be done so quickly too, less time for you to feel stressed and sooner the better for Merlin.

My son had a springer who damaged an eye blundering through scrub and it (the eye) had to be removed,did not seem to bother him at all !!
He was about 4 years old
