I bought some pholcodine yesterday hoping it was going to help , as it was for dry tickly coughs...well that's what I got lol, instead of helping it seemed to make it worse, every other breath through the night was a cough. So this morning I have gone back to the bronchial balsam which has helped a little though my throat is now so sore from coughing it is hard to tell really,

anyone got a 'foolproof' cure? :) to get me better by next sunday please . ( I don't want 'medical advice' before anyone leaps to say ask a doctor, I just want personal experience , I have no intolerance to anything LOL well i do but not medicinal ingredients ;)

the only thing i would suggest is drinking honey and lemon in hot water cough linctus only works

till you swallow then its in your belly not your throat

No cough mixtures will cure the cough ,but to ease it a little I find Govonia good, especially the one for cattar(I have never been able to spell that word lol)

Thanks Jane , Joy and Stella :) If it goes on like this I may be reduced to trying to track down some 'Owbridges Lung tonic' ... the most disgusting stuff, which used to give me hallucinations...but always worked lol.

Thanks Whirley, seems like that is getting the most votes :) I think I've had it before sometime so will see how I am by tomorrrow and maybe get some,

Joy, not heard of that one !

Julie, I hope your daughter starts to feel better soon, this is a really rough one, not usually hit like this so maybe it IS 'swine flu'? the only thing is looking at the symptoms, the one they mention first off is a high temp and I haven't had that really.

Thanks Rose

I think what she has is just a really bad cough.....I also think my 2 have had swine flu already, back in June they were really ill.....very high temps, not eating, headache, sore throats & they said they ache

I hope you find something that helps Rose . I had to resort to going to the doctors with my cough ( worst one I've had in I don't know how many years ) I'd got through a bottle of Pholcodine to no avail . It is a chest infection and I've been on steroids and antibiotics all week . It's still hanging on and I feel like I'm trying to turn myself inside out when I get a coughing fit .

The old Vick on the feet does help a bit , especially as the coughing gets worse when laying in bed .
I hope you feel better soon xxx

Clear Honey, hot water and fresh lemon juice, always works for me, except when it was pneumonia and hospital Christmas day 2007!.
Get well soon, you must get better before your weekend away!

Codiene Linctus for dry coughs if pholcadiene doesn't work. You might be asked questions by the Pharmacist though but no problem they just have to check your not a codiene addict.

Edit forgot to add suck on an ice cube.

lol Kay , no I meant

"Thankyou ladies....it is too cold in this room to sit and type more than a couple of words, so I'm going down to huddle under my 'blankie' that my darling son has bought me for my birthday, but let me have early :)) It was from Aldi, made in Germany and is probably the warming-est thing since Heinz tomato soup " ....

but "thankyou ladies" was quicker ;) LOL
