It's a bit daft really isnt it................the show producers, apparently planted the rat, so should they not be answerable to the Oz RSPCA?

Silly Sausage Report 6 Dec 2009 18:53

They killed it because they were hungry its nature ...I think

Whirley

Whirley Report 6 Dec 2009 18:39

the "rat" was "planted" there and was, a friendly rat, apparently. The Oz RSPCA are saying no "animal" should die for "entertainment" purposes..............the bugs that got their heads bit off are "bugs/insects" so they dont count.....

I find it odd that that was cruel and yet they can chew the heads of bugs, stand on them, throw eels about etc etc.
I presume/hope the rat didnt suffer.

I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! winner Gino D'Acampo and fellow contestant Stuart Manning face criminal charges for animal cruelty after cooking and eating a rat on the programme.
The pair were part of a group in "exile" for part of the series, which meant meagre rations of rice and beans.

A lack of meat prompted the contestants to apparently catch, kill and eat a rat.

D'Acampo, 33, said in the show's video diary room the Bush Telegraph: "I saw one of these rats running around. I got a knife, I got its throat, I picked it up."

The group, including 30-year-old Manning, ate the rat and enjoyed the meal.

Chief Insp David Oshannessy from the RSPCA in New South Wales, said it was not acceptable that an animal had been killed as part of a performance. ITV was unavailable for comment.

What I find a bit strange is that ITV are allowed to kill insects and animals purely for entertainment but the duo aren't allowed to kill the rat. The RSPCA said it was for entertainment purposes and therefore it wasn't allowed however, I think they can justify that it was for food rather than entertainment whereas I personally don't think ITV can justify the bush tucker challenges.
