She will soon learn though.Back in the 1960,s when our daughter was pre school i worked full time and MIL looked after her ,they had a mongrel called Rusty who absolutely adored our daughter and he would sit in the bay window so he could see me coming up the road and he would then go to the hall and bark so that by the time i made the front door Mum had opened it and gone back downstairs to carry on with the breakfasts. Rusty never sat in the window on a Saturday and Sunday, i guess the routine in the house was different so he knew we wouldn't be coming.
He would get absolutely flummoxed thought if for some reason i wouldn't go to work one day,he would be very unsettled and be up and done all morning wondering where we were.

shirley thats a lovely story,
they get so attached to routine dont they, and to relatives,
our old dog molly adored our daughter, slept on her bed everynight,
when she had her daughter, molly was very taken by her, tho she was getting on a bit well 9ish, she would lay beside her, even when babe got to crawling stage, one night both asleep beside our bed, babes in her moses basket, unbeknown to us escaped, and crawled along landing to sons room, and proceeded to investigate all around his room,

molly was down stairs by this point tip toeing around hall to get my attention, she must of got to top of stairs and stayed there till babes diverted away from stairs,
as i got up son was bleary eyed coming to meet me along landing with babes in his arms, saying i think your missing someone
molly then came running upstairs, and setteled back down in her bed,

close shave that was

Goodness that was a close shave. Dogs do have a good sense of danger though I think .
Our old Rusty used to keep a beady eye on our daughter and the stairs when she was toddling. Mum looked after her from the day before her first birthday when i went back to work after maternity leave, she started to toddle on her 1st birthday. Rusty was very protective of her .Mind you I did introduce them as soon as I came home from hospital .I let Rusty investigate her in my arms and give a her good sniffing so he got her smell, When she was able to take notice of him i would hold her hand and stroke Rusty saying good boy Rusty and if she ever clutched at his coat she would have her hand taken off him and I would say" no ,poor rusty, mustn't grab him "

thats best way to teach kids isnt it,
i hate it wehn dogs get told off , if a kids being sometimes unknowingly mean to them,
our grandaughter was just 9months when we lost our moll, but she remembers little bits of her,
she recognises her colours in other dogs,
and wanted to call our new pup molly,
but agreed on lilly-molly
lol

Really had to sit down and start writing the Xmas cards, done 30 so far without the specials already sent out and run out of cards so got to get another box tomorrow.
Anyway in the middle of writing my mind wandered, as it does !! and remembered that Rusty's mum was a Molly too!! She was a mongrel and a very soppy girl who was frightened of other dogs so they had no problem keeping her safe when it was needed,if you get my drift, Anyway when she was about 12 and in heat she went with mum to open the front door to a visitor ,she always liked to be nosy. Mum closed the door and went downstairs leaving Molly in the Hall and all of a sudden there was a mighty commission.lots of squeals and cries and thrashing about noises, Mum rushed upstairs to see the local randy street dog had somehow got into the hall and poor Molly was being "assaulted" She really didnt want any of it but she wasnt able to fend him off. The result was one pup ,Rusty, who they decided to keep .Molly lived till she was 16 but had gone before i met my hubby so Rusty was about 5 when i first knew him and around 9 when he met our daughter. We would often see them both curled up asleep on the lounge carpet he would have his front paws curled around our daughter.
Wow lovely memories this has bought back.

We had a cat when our son was about ten, who slept most of the day, but always woke up at school closing time and went across the field s to meet him from the bus. We also had a pigeon which would fly after the school bus and wait for him in the schoolyard!
