Is our subconcious stronger that we think?

I had a dream a coule of nights ago which made me think about this.

Nine years ago I had a real life changing event happen to me (I don't want to go into details). It was awful at the time and it's something I will never get over but I have learnt to live with it. Therefore it is not something I think about often or dwell over.

A few nights ago I had a really bad dream that this thing was happening again and I was having to deal with the after effects.

When I woke up, I thought about why I had had this dream and it occured to me that it was 9 years to the day exactly since it had happened.
I hadn't thought about it the day before, In fact I cannot remember the last time I really thought about it. So it's not like It was already on my mind.

Can our subconcious 'remember' things even if we don't?
(I'm not really after an answer, Just thoughts)

All our memories are somewhere in our brain,so I do believe the Sub Concious will release memories, and we have no control over it.I hope it hasn't distressed you too much.

Jane,
Thankyou, It hasn't upset me really but I was a little shaken up when I awoke after the dream.
As I said, It is something I have learnt to live with and to be honest I wouldn't be the person I am today if it hadn't happened.

You know how sometimes the answer is on the tip of your tongue, but won't come to mind. If you think about something unrelated for a while, you usually come up with the answer. That is an example of your subconcious working away, just like your computer ferreting about in the archives.
Gypsylady,I sypathise with you. I regularly have a lucid dream about my oldest son,Richard. In the dream he is about 12,and we are shopping for a new school uniform, all very ordinary. For a few seconds after waking, everything seems as usual, then I remember that he died nearly twenty years ago,and I have to grieve all over again..I wish that I could stop this happening, perhaps this is the true meaning of being haunted.

I'm not asking for sympathy, just explaining that most of us experience these things.

They say that it's not the events that happen to you that define you as a person but how you deal with them. Whatever it was it's sounds like you have dealt with it very well, Pat. However it's still there in the depths of your mind. It's a credit to you that your sub-conscious can dredge it up to remind you and you have to strength to send it back where it belongs.

I had a run of premonition dreams , accidents crashes etc, all very frustrating because there is nothing you can do to prevent them happening in real life.
I have since found that I sleepwalk and talk/shout in my sleep!

The latest batch are repeat dreams about having amnesia, not knowing who I am or where I live. I know there are ways of cutting a dream short if the situation gets out of hand, but haven't found it yet.!
