of a recording from the American Folklife Museum of songs Sung by Mr William Fishlock, Chiswick Ferry, Surrey on 9th January, 1908. That's my gt grandfather :))

Hi Julia, it's not great quality but quite amazing to think it was recorded all the way back then on a cylinder , he can hold a tune :))

Aw Rose, you lucky thing to have a recording of an ancestor's voice. I bet it seems wierd to listen to.

How did you find this?

Perhaps I should thank my aunt for marrying into said Fishlock family!
If had not joined Genes I would not have 'found' and met Rose and her family links by a chance remark on a thread a couple of years ago.
Although at present I am not tracing this distant line it still interests me.

just seen a photograph of him ( tinternet )....I take it you sent it in...on the same page is about Tommy Steel and others who SueM might be interested in too

J* I found the details a while back but this has actually come through from my cousin who 'traded some info to the US Museum in return for a copy ) :)) , ( also some Lighterman's indentures for him and his father

George yes he operated the Chiswick Ferry .
