Britain braced for cold weather
Last Updated: Thursday, 10 December 2009, 12:16 GMT-

Britain braced for widespread frostBritain is braced for a major cold snap with freezing temperatures forecast for the weekend.
Following the wettest November on record, widespread frosts and isolated wintry showers are set to hit the country.
Stephen Davenport, a forecaster with MeteoGroup, the weather arm of the Press Association, said it would be "noticeably colder".
"It's certainly going to be far more wintry than it has been," he said. "It will be fairly noticeably colder this weekend.

"It will be mostly dry with a few showers in East Anglia and the south east.
"There may be reports of snow showers on high ground in the north of England but they will not be sustained."
Temperatures are likely to drop below freezing in the north of England and to about 2C (35F) over the weekend.
Mr Davenport said it was too early to predict whether Britain would get a white Christmas but added snow showers were likely before then.
The RAC warned drivers of increasingly treacherous conditions on the roads, with fog also possible.
A spokeswoman for the Met Office said temperatures were likely to be slightly below the seasonal average - and were set to drop further in the next

Keep warm and safe folks, I just got back from the city center and the gritting lorries are out, chucked some all over the bonnet of the car stupid thing! Was only on a minor road on a housing estate!

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 11 Dec 2009 04:23

Marion, I bought the long johns from Damart when I worked at Norwich Railway station in the parcels office, wore them under my uniform trousers to keep me warm when I had to go out on to the platform on the night shift or early shift, that wind used to whistle along the tracks lol

Now I wear old leggings with holey crotches instead of tights when I wear skirts and boots, much warmer and wears the leggings out a bit more before throwing them out, the rest of the legs and body are fine, just the crotch goes first! O.h. keeps saying they look scruffy hanging on the line to dry when it's ok to hang laundry outside but I tell him I like the holey bit as it means I don't get thrush lol (I wear my cotton Bridget Jones drawers underneath of course, don't want any draughts lol)

My Dad used to wear long johns when cycling to work and being in his office as he was a timekeeper, gate man at a brewery and had to go outside a lot too in all weathers.

Like Father, like daughter, me!

Very foggy and cold this morning.
But today is probably the last day on the motorbike until January as I've got three days off next week for hospital tests then I'll use the train for a week as it's our office lunch Thursday and drinks Friday so I'll get a weekly season, although that will be about £90 as opposed to about £25 for petrol !

Brian, more expensive but safer I hope so take care on the last few days of biking. Good luck with the tests and enjoy the office party etc.

I just had an email from the people we stayed with in Corfu, they have stopped using Thos Cook and are going it alone next year. Their prices are pretty good, especially the special offers in May and June, as long as you can book a cheap flight too and they will arrange taxis to and from airport so transfer takes less than half the time as direct drive rather than round the houses in a coach dropping people off.

Will ask o.h. if he wants to book an early holiday at work and book with them to get some sunshine and longer days next holiday time The thought of sunshine is wonderful and as we know what to expect from the accommodation and area we could have a better holiday than last time and I wouldn't need to take so much knowing what is available there and hoping it would be warmer than when we went this time.

Carole, I have done that for years, so snug and with my arthritis I need to be warm.

Britain set for weekend big chill
Last Updated: Friday, 11 December 2009, 08:39 GMT

Many people will be shivering this weekend with freezing temperatures forecast for much of the country.
Following the wettest November on record, widespread frosts and isolated wintry showers are predicted for the next couple of days.
Daytime temperatures will be as low as 3C, falling to -3C or less in northern parts of the UK with fog also causing problems.
John Hutchinson, a forecaster with MeteoGroup, the weather arm of the Press Association, said it would be "noticeably colder".

"It has been quite a mild autumn and it's going to be a bit colder than we have seen," he said.
Across southern England this weekend, daytime temperatures will be between 4C and 7C, falling to zero at night.
Further north, it will be between 3C and 6C during the day and fall to -3C or possibly lower overnight.
The RAC warned drivers of increasingly treacherous conditions on the roads, with fog also possible.
A spokeswoman for the Met Office said temperatures were likely to be slightly below the seasonal average - and were set to drop further in the next week.
"We expect temperatures to fall steadily over the weekend, starting (today)," she said.

take care folks!

Weathermen forecast bitter cold
Last Updated: Saturday, 12 December 2009, 20:04 GMT

Forecasters warned the UK is about to suffer a cold snapThe incessant rain and floods of recent weeks looks to be over - but now weather forecasters say the UK is set for a bout of sleet and snow and bitterly cold temperatures.
Gritters have been on high alert over the weekend with the mercury in many areas falling well below zero.
Forecaster Paul Mott, of MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: "There is much colder weather on the way.
"By Wednesday night the whole of the UK will be seeing frost and sub-zero temperatures during the night.

And by Thursday there will be wintry showers with the possibility of sleet and snow, even over areas of southern and eastern England. It will be feeling bitterly cold."
On Friday night temperatures dipped as low as minus 9C in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, with northern Scotland suffering the worst of the weather and hard frosts. The coldest place in England was Shap, in Cumbria, where the mercury fell to minus 4C.
But areas of England, particularly in the South East, escaped without frost, and in London temperatures were around 3C to 4C. On Saturday night, the temperatures are likely to be much the same.
With more fog on the way the RAC is warning drivers to beware of treacherous conditions on the roads.
On Friday bookmakers William Hill said there was a 1,000% increase in the number of bets placed on a white Christmas during the week. Aberdeen is the 11/4 favourite, Manchester is 5/1 and London is 9/2.
Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: "It will cost the industry millions if snow falls on Xmas day."

I hope you are all ok over there, we have had torrential rain all day today most unusually, first all day/real rain for months, I think the last lot we had was a short thunderstorm back in February!

As there are no road drains here, all the roundabouts are flooded! Many road in Dubai are flooded, I expect Sharjah will be as well.
